The geography of North America varies significantly from coast to coast. On the east coast, the north is heavily wooded with deciduous trees, while the southeast has coastal plains and river valleys. On the west coast, the north is also heavily wooded, primarily with fir, spruce, and cedar trees. In between the coasts there are large flat regions like the Great Basin and Great Plains which are covered in low vegetation and grasslands. In the far north regions of North America, the Arctic and the Subarctic, the winters tend to be longer and colder, with less and less vegetation the farther north you travel.
