If you're trying to memorize the countries of Europe, one way to make the task a little easier is to use a mnemonic device. Mnemonics (pronounced “ne-mon’-ics") are memory aides made up of easily recalled rhymes, phrases, acronyms, or stories that serve as a reference for the place names (or other information) that you’re studying.
One example is the common mnemonic device that helps people memorize the names of the seven continents: Eat An Apple As A Nighttime Snack. That stands for Europe, Asia, Africa, Australia, Antarctica, North America, South America!
The human brain is a wonder. It's capable of remembering a phrase like "Eat An Apple As A Nighttime Snack” much more easily than it can commit to memory the actual information you’re trying to learn. But once you recall the key phrase, your mind can go to work filling in names that correspond to each initial letter.
There's one problem though. There are only seven continents to memorize. Europe has 47 countries. Coming up with a mnemonic device to remember all those names is challenging.
That's where you can get some help from a truly awesome video. The name's a little wordy, but it gets the point across:
With about 710, 000 views, this video has helped a lot of people learn the European countries.
Often, the best mnemonics are kind of silly or funny. A mnemonic just seems to stick in your mind better if it puts a smile on your face. Well, the creative teacher who walks us through this video does not scrimp on the funny!
As he works his way across Europe, the narrator comes out with some really crazy word associations that, once committed to memory, will probably stay with you for a long time.
Memorizing the countries of Europe is no easy task. You could simply grab a list of the country names and start reading it over and over again. After that method puts you to sleep, snap out of it and use this video instead!
